Teaching Peace In Yoga Class

In conjunction with the Global Mala Project designed to unite the worldwide yoga community on the UN International Peace Day (September 22, 2007) I have been inspired to teach yoga this fall through the mantra of yoga as peace in action. Naturally some questions arise: What is peace? How do you teach peace in a yoga class?

Although everybody seems to have an innate understanding of peace, it becomes a difficult state to describe. In the context of a global community peace is understood as the cessation of war. On an individual level peace can be described as calm, serene, silence, equilibrium and harmony.

How To Meditate Like Goldilocks

If Goldilocks were to leaf through a few meditation books, she might find some approaches to be too hot, others too cold. But soon enough, we know she’d land on a system that feels “just right” to her. She always does.

Meditation is Like Porridge

When you take your first taste of meditation, it is good to follow your inner guidance. Too hot? Too cold? Find an approach that feels “just right” as it offers you a bridge from your every day state of mind into the clarity, awakening, and healing you seek.

Scattered Mind

Yoga Visualization For Empowerment - Bad Luck And Negative Energy

Just as Yoga can assist us to take control of our lives, negative energy works against taking charge of your life. At this point, please observe a person, you know, who consistently has terrible luck. Notice that this person always expects a poor outcome on the job, in transit, and at home.

This person expects the sky to fall, the world to end tomorrow, and the sun will never shine again. The negative energy, within this person’s mind, projects itself into daily situations; and, unfortunately, he or she has “bad luck.”

What Is Advanced Yoga Training For Stress Solutions?

How can an ancient health maintenance system, such as Yoga, have stress solutions that apply to the people of today? Yoga has not stood still for the last 5,000 years. In fact, Yoga is a science, which constantly grows and evolves with each passing day. Therefore, Yoga has evolved to face humankind’s daily problems.

One of the problems is that technology has brought about a feeling of instant gratification. We anticipate a specific outcome because we believe technology to be perfect. When technology is not perfect, we are “stressed out.”

Pranayama - A New Lifestyle

Lifestyle has a profound impact on the pranamaya kosha and its pranas. Physical activities such as exercise, work, sleep, intake of food and sexual relations, all affect the distribution and flow of prana in the body. Faculties of the mind such as emotion, thought and imagination affect the pranic body even more. Irregularities in lifestyle, dietary indiscretions and stress, deplete and obstruct the pranic flow. Depletion of energy in a particular prana leads to the de vitalisation of the organs and limbs it governs and ultimately to disease or metabolic dysfunction. The techniques of pranayama reverse this process, energising and balancing the different pranas within the pranamaya kosha.
