When easing into the warm days of summer, after months of battling rainy weather, I can’t wait for the warmth. And I’m also finding myself revamping my makeup look to go along with it. Nothing like warm weather to make you want to redo your image.

KEEPING SKIN LOOKING GREAT

After you’ve done the mandatory sunblock, (you do this on a regular basis, right?)

Warm weather does wonders for how you feel, but it can also make your foundation seem to disappear. After a few hours of wear, it can look as if foundation/concealer or powder were never put on at all. Here’s how to adapt. Continue reading »

Don’t overcleanse (stripping skin of all its oils only induces it to produce more), and exfoliate daily (or as often as your skin can tolerate) to keep dead skin cells from clumping together and clogging pores.

You should beware this surprise pimple-promoter: popular vitamin, mineral, and herbal supplements containing iodine, sometimes listed as potassium iodine. Iodine triggers angry red breakouts in many people, especially those who are acne-prone to begin with.

If your foundation causes pimples or blackheads, the product is probably too heavy (too-heavy moisturizers or cleansers may compound this problem). Look for foundations labeled noncomedogenic or nonacnegenic. Continue reading »

Using concealers

Concealers can be used to correct, camouflage and lighten imperfections, blemishes, and under eye circles. Using too light of a concealer will give you raccoon eyes. Applying it to the whole under eye area when you have a puff and a circle will just defeat the purpose. When you begin shopping for a concealer youâll find they come in stick, wand, pot, tube, compact and pencil form. Concealer comes in a variety of skin tone shades and several correction shades such as yellow to correct blue, green to correct redish areas, blemishes and scars and violet for sallow skin tones. Others have light reflecting, or brightening qualities. Continue reading »

Younger skin can get away with bright, garish makeup, but on older skin these colors tend to look “clownish”.. plus, they can emphasize fine lines and wrinkles!

Skin starts to change when you’re in your twenties. By the time you reach thirty, it starts losing color.

The worst thing you can do is to try adding color to your face by using foundation… this will give you a terrible “mask-like” effect and leave you with tidemarks on your jawline. Continue reading »

Even if you normally wear little or no makeup, you should wear some on your wedding day. If you do not, you may end up looking “washed out” in your photographs.
When you pick out your wedding day makeup, wear a white shirt.
For the most part, keep makeup very matte looking. The strong lights tend to reflect off your face if you use makeup with a lot of shimmer in it; however, you can use a bit of gloss on your lips.
Since the camera captures the slightest shine, you should have a powder compact handy for quick touch-ups during the photography session.
Make sure your blush, lip liner and lipstick are all in the same color family.
To make lips seem full and luscious for the entire night, first draw a well-defined lip with your sharpened lip liner. Then fill in your entire lips with the liner. Follow with lipstick using a lip brush. Finish lips by blotting them lightly with loose powder; then apply another coat of lipstick.
Stay away from very brown or pale lipsticks – they look washed out on photographs.
Use an eyelash curler before applying mascara to make your lashes look longer and your eyes look bigger
Bring out your eyelashes with an extra coat of mascara, making sure that every lash is separated. Of course you’ll want to wear waterproof mascara!
Finish your look with loose powder; it sets everything.
Don’t forget about your hands! Everyone will want to gaze at your beautiful ring at the reception, so make sure your nails look great!
To keep yourself looking your best on the wedding day, give your head bridesmaid a small bag to carry with your essentials. Include lipstick, blush, a powder compact, a sample vial of your perfume, an extra pair of pantyhose, a nail file and any other items you might need.

The trend in make up for Spring/Summer may have a few of us wondering how on earth we’re going to wear  these lime green and mango hued eye shadows, coral lipsticks, opaque lip glosses, and pastel yellows to boot. Is there an alien invasion or something coming our way?

I’ve heard the gasps lately, of women walking by make up counters, browsing through, quizzically trying to figure out how a pot of fluorescent green lime dust came about. Who came up with these colors, anyway? I can’t answer that, my fellow make up junkies, but what I can do is put forth a makeover using some of these scary hues, give you a bit of advice on how to apply some of the shades, and not make them look so untouchable after all.

This is a fun makeup look, and yet holds a classic touch too. The class comes from the technique, and the trend from the colors. Combining the two together, makes it a little less of a shock for some. However, this look is still a bit daring, and can be minimized, or heck go all out and get Mork to take ya out dancing.

Face:
Apply a shimmering face lotion under foundation, or blend with foundation for a glowing and radiant base.
Elizabeth Arden Shimmering Face Lotion
Estee Lauder Body Glow (sheer)
BeneFit High Beam
Nars Body Glow for darker complexions
Before applying loose powder, use a clean powder puff to pat face gently, or use a one ply face tissue. Dust translucent powder with a powder brush lightly over face to set. For added shimmer use a shimmering loose powder on cheekbones, brow bone, and temples.  Continue reading »

Looking bright eyed and bushy tailed everyday, is not always an easy task to accomplish. A little help from our makeup can always help us looking fresh and using the correct shades can further assist us in getting that glow. The millennium hype has left us with a sense of relief. Like the calm after a very unpredictable storm. As with makeup, with it’s storm being the smoky eyed looks, it’s time to give the eyes a calming effect, but yet still holding the same definition. Sultry, sexy, and very captivating. To achieve a somewhat ethereal, healthy looking glow for the eyes, it’s important to use colors that are of light to medium intensity, layering mattes and shimmers, and adding just a touch of dark intensity. Like the smoky eye with smudging being the optimal word to achieve this look, the white lies look holds this word true to its heart as well.

Let the fresh fall of sparkling snow compliment your eyes with this look. Take this look on into the spring, as the warm weather warms your skin, and adds a twinkle to your eyes. Continue reading »

I did a number of different make-up looks for Stephanie, but this is one of my favorites. I went from the girl next door look to the girl next door look, ..Re-vamped! :) ..Can I just borrow those full lips for a day!

Foundation: MAC Face and Body Foundation in N1 and MMU Candle Glow in Pink Pearl: I mixed MMU Candle Glow in Pink Pearl with this foundation. The coverage is very sheer and blends like a dream. The light-reflecting particles in the Candle Glow create a very nice, dewy finish. I dabbed a little Candle Glow just under her brow bone, along the bridge of her nose and a tad on her chin over foundation/candle glow concoction to subtly highlight these areas a little more. I applied this mixture using a dry, latex-free wedge sponge. Victorya’s Glittering Party Look

Profile: Victorya, 24, Web designer
Makeover objective: Needs a fun, modern look for the holiday party scene!
Makeover created by: Paul Labrecque Salon & Spa, 160 Columbus Avenue, New York, NY 10023

Victorya was nervous about getting a makeover, but she was ready for a more daring and contemporary look — especially for the holidays. Taylor, a hairstylist at Paul Labrecque Spa, created what he calls a feminine deconstructed bob for Victorya. He created long layers that could be blown dry straight or flipped out at the ends. He razor cut the back of her hair to give the style more movement than a traditional blunt cut. Continue reading »
