I have noticed for some time now that throughout the day my moods and energy levels fluctuate-sometimes I feel great and other times I feel tired and depressed. Are these “slumps” normal, or is there something I can do to avoid them?

What’s happening is that you’re experiencing rapid changes in your blood sugar levels. Asyour blood sugar rises, you feel really good, and when it falls, you feel irritable and tired. These rapid changes in your blood sugar levels occur because you, like many people including myself, are carbohydrate sensitive. When you eat a carbohydrate, you get a rapid increase in your blood sugar, which causes your body to overreact and produce too much insulin.
