Sunscreen is the most important skin care product for the woman who wants to keep great looking skin for life! Selecting the right sunscreen can be a daunting task, given all the various sunscreen type products currently available for purchase. It is important to remember that most women do not get the majority of their sun exposure on the beach, but rather driving the car, getting the mail, taking out the garbage, and walking into the office.
Since most sun exposure is gotten casually, this means that daily sun protection is a must. The best way to achieve year around quality sun protection is to wear a sunscreen-containing moisturizer every morning on the face, ears, neck, and upper chest. The newer particulate sunscreen-containing moisturizers, such as those that contain microfine zinc oxide, provide excellent protection against both the UVA aging rays of the sun and the UVB burning rays of the sun (Olay Daily UV complete, Procter & Gamble). This broad-spectrum protection is important to both adults and children.
The particulate sunscreens work primarily by reflecting sunlight away from the skin surface. This is accomplished, without whitening the skin, by grinding the zinc oxide into small particles that are not perceived by the eye. Zinc oxide is noncomedogenic and hypoallergenic, making it safe for use in persons with acne and/or sensitive skin.
