The trend in make up for Spring/Summer may have a few of us wondering how on earth we’re going to wear  these lime green and mango hued eye shadows, coral lipsticks, opaque lip glosses, and pastel yellows to boot. Is there an alien invasion or something coming our way?

I’ve heard the gasps lately, of women walking by make up counters, browsing through, quizzically trying to figure out how a pot of fluorescent green lime dust came about. Who came up with these colors, anyway? I can’t answer that, my fellow make up junkies, but what I can do is put forth a makeover using some of these scary hues, give you a bit of advice on how to apply some of the shades, and not make them look so untouchable after all.

This is a fun makeup look, and yet holds a classic touch too. The class comes from the technique, and the trend from the colors. Combining the two together, makes it a little less of a shock for some. However, this look is still a bit daring, and can be minimized, or heck go all out and get Mork to take ya out dancing.

Face:
Apply a shimmering face lotion under foundation, or blend with foundation for a glowing and radiant base.
Elizabeth Arden Shimmering Face Lotion
Estee Lauder Body Glow (sheer)
BeneFit High Beam
Nars Body Glow for darker complexions
Before applying loose powder, use a clean powder puff to pat face gently, or use a one ply face tissue. Dust translucent powder with a powder brush lightly over face to set. For added shimmer use a shimmering loose powder on cheekbones, brow bone, and temples.
Suggestions:
Make-up Forever Shine On Powder
Red Earth Shimmer Powder
MAC Golden Bronze for darker complexions or for a bronze shimmer.

Eyes
Base:
Apply a matte or low watt shimmer off-white eye shadow from brow to lashes.
Suggestions:
Too Faced in Purr
stila in Chinois
BeneFit in Shallow
MAC in Rice Paper

Mobile lid/Bottom lash line: Sweep a shimmery lime/green-gold shadow across mobile lid, blending to the inner most corner of the eye. You can use either a cream shadow or powder shadow. I suggest powder for oilier eye lids, and a darker shadow for darker complexions. Lightly sweep the shadow under bottom lash line, starting from inner corner to outer corner.  Shadow should align with corner of outer eye.
Suggestions:
Youngblood Crushed Mineral Shadow in Peridot
stila in Kahlo or Irma (darker, and more olive)
I Nuovi in Peridot for more shimmer

Crease/bottom lash line:
Sweep a medium matte grey from the outer corner of  eye, going slightly out of the crease, and blending into the inner edge, where pupil begins. Also, sweep some in inner/outer crease, and under bottom lash line, just lightly under the lime shadow, and blend.
Suggestions:
stila in Rain
Club Monaco in Smoke (darker, more intensity)

Eye Line: Line inner and bottom lash line using an orangey brown or peach/coral shimmer shadow, smudging it into lashes. Do not line the whole lash line with this shade, just inner corners.
Suggestions:
stila in Jezabel (sheer)
Club Monaco in Copper (daring)
Define upper lash line using a cake liner in black or dark brown. Apply it wet for extra definition, or dry for a more subtle definition. Line upper lash line starting from orange or peach shadow. Smudge and blend them and continue to line towards outer lash line. Lower lash line can be left bare, or use cake liner and smudge it between lashes.
Suggestions:
BeneFit Babecakes Cake Eyeliners in Sophia (black), or Audrey (dark brown)

Lashes: Curl lashes and finish this wicked eye look with two or three coats of clump free mascara.
Suggestions:
Clinique Naturally Glossy Mascara

Cheeks
Apply a sheer blush in a pink/coral shade or a burnt orangey shade on the apples of cheeks, using your fingertips. Dab excess on hand first and then dot the cream blush forming a connect the dots triangle over cheek bone and blend out and upwards until no harsh lines can be seen and color appears transparent/sheer.
Suggestions:
Club Monaco Cheek Dew in Bashful or Sunkissed.

Lips
Line and fill in lips using a light to medium coral/brown lip liner.
Suggestions:
The Body Shop in Salmon or similar shade. Darker for darker complexions.
Fill in lips with a matching or slightly darker lipstick.
Suggestions:
Nars in Xanadu
BeneFit in Really, It’s On (paler and needs gloss over it to prevent pasty looking lips)
Top it off with a lip gloss.
Suggestions:
stila in mango or peach shine (shimmer)
BeneFit in Frankie’s Girl
Clarins Lip Shine in Sunset Coral
