Summer Skin Care Protection For Kids
As a mom of three little ones, sun protection is an important theme in our home. Especially during the brutally hot days of summer when there is little relief from potentially hazardous rays. Let’s talk first about what sun protection is.
Sun protection is simply guarding yourself and others from the adverse effects of sunlight. Aside from the hazards of heat, the sun poses the danger of sunburn, which can permanently damage the skin and cause skin cancer.
Know that we know what it is; we know how to avoid it. The best ways to avoid sunburn are to make sure you limit your children’s time in the sun especially during the hours of 10-3 when the sun is the strongest. Make sure your whole family wears protective clothing such as wide brimmed hats, and SPF clothing that covers arms and legs. There are many light weight alternatives available to keep you cool and protected at the same time. Lastly, make sure to use a protective sunscreen to minimize the penetration of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays.
You can find many nontoxic sunscreen choices on line. Be sure to purchase a non-water proof formula. “Water proof formulas” smoother the skin and do not allow the body to expel sweat and keep your bodies temperature regulated. It is much better to reapply product then run the risk of heat exhaustion.
Have fun this summer. Stay safe, and schedule your outdoor activities around the hottest part of the day. These are best practices for keeping yourself and your family safe this summer.
